The Urban Vehicle Innovations team is a part of the Urban Mobility Solutions department, with the mission to create the best vehicle solutions for Mercedes-Benz customers and urban residents. The team is dedicated to making Mercedes-Benz the leader in individual urban mobility. They act as the voice of urban customers, citizens, and cities within the organization by designing, developing, and selling products that address the specific needs of urban areas.


The team's approach includes rethinking vehicle hardware and digital features with urban customers and citizens in mind. They aim to create products that not only meet the practical needs of urban residents, but also enhance their overall quality of life. By placing a strong emphasis on customer feedback and incorporating the latest technological advances, the team strives to deliver the most innovative and effective solutions.

Overall, the Urban Vehicle Innovations team is committed to creating products that make a positive impact on urban mobility, and to establishing Mercedes-Benz as the go-to brand for individual urban mobility.

City to Car
Notifications

Another instance of this is a project called "City to Car Notifications", which endeavors to provide Mercedes-Benz drivers with information about road safety hotspots and other high attention areas, such as school zones, through their in-car infotainment system. The project was piloted in cooperation with the European Institute for Innovation and Technology in Amsterdam and Helsinki, where on-trip notifications were successfully tested for effectiveness. Moving forward, the team aims to introduce this and other features to Mercedes-Benz vehicles, to enable customers to contribute towards creating a safer and more efficient urban mobility.

City Editions

One project that exemplifies this approach is the "City Edition" initiative, which has released editions in Berlin, Hamburg, Los Angeles (USA) and Sanya (China). These editions offer a unique combination of features and services that cater specifically to the needs and preferences of each city. For instance, in the bike-friendly cities of Berlin and Hamburg, the "City Edition" includes a flexible electric vehicle subscription, an eBike, and a monthly charging credit – all for one fixed price per month. In Los Angeles, the package comprises a Mercedes-Benz EQS with a premium scooter from a US-based company stored in the trunk, along with a home wallbox for convenient charging at home.
